Getting to Know Trinidad and Tobago!

 Trinidad and Tobago are a pair of islands unified as a country. They are located of the north eastern coast of South America. It was colonized by the Spaniards in 1498 and later the British after the fall of the Spanish rule to Britain in 1797.The island country has a rich history and has many cultural ties to many different European countries and has gained their independence in 1962 becoming the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Tobago is located 20 miles north east of Trinidad and it is the smaller of the two islands. It is roughly 115 sq. miles large and is accessible by boat, ferry, and  plane. It has been stated that the 1st island discovered by Christopher Columbus was Tobago.it was obtained by the British when the French using the Treaty of Paris in 1814.A major export of Tobago during its colonial times was sugar production until a major hurricane wiped out the crop rediverting its efficiency in that market useless. The did begin farming other fruits and  vegetables and have been very profitable off of their crops and large tourist industry.



Trinidad was also the birthplace of Carnival. It is a unique style of music that is largely popular world wide. They also have a very unique instrument native to the island called the Steel drum which has a very recognizable and distinct sound. The food is very distinct to the area as it has food is found only on the island such as the delicious meal of pelau and callaloo which I had all the time as a kid. The area is rich in culture and history but it is largely unknown to many people not with family from the region.

History of Trinidad and Tobago

 Trinidad and Tobago was first named by the famous traveler Christopher Columbus  who clammed it for Spain in July 31 1498.The name was supposedly derives from when the traveler seeing the three peaks of mountains called the Three Sisters of the Southern Ridge.




The Islands have deep ties to Britain as reflected in parts of its government reflected its own.It gained independence from the country in 1962.  It has a prime minster and claims Britain's Queen as their own.



Ties of its Colonial upbringings can be seen all throughout its culture such as how many of its inhabitants celebrate Catholic Holidays such as Ash Wednesday. Many different religions  are present in the island such as  Evangelical, Baptist, Anglican ,Presbyterian and many more.

Traveling to Trinidad! Things To Do!

 Hey! Are you interested on going to Trinidad And Tobago once Covid decides to leave us alone?

Here's what you need to know!

1.Scam artists are common. As you should be aware in other countries scam artist will go for the tourist due to them being unfamiliar with the area and customs.

2.If you want to go to Tobago on a ferry you need to be early and if you think your early go even earlier. Ferry rides tend to fill up quickly many times before they are even ready to load.

3.Trinidad and Tobago have beautiful beaches on the main island many of them are located on the east side and amazing beaches are amount in the island of Tobago.

4.An amazing spot to explore is the Saturday markets when you can enjoy many elements of the culture like buying some of the amazing foods such as curry chicken and roti or listening to the music of soca ad steel drums.

About Me!

 Hey everyone my name is Timothy and I am twenty years old and I'm from New York .My mother is from the island country Trinidad and Tobago and my father Brooklyn NY. I've been to Trinidad years ago but I was a young child and don't remember much about it. I have a few hobbies such as working on and modifying cars, collecting many different forms of art work from paintings and tapestries to different types of tattoos, and watching anime in my free time. I even have attached a image of my current vehicle below. This is my first experience every blogging and I am interested in seeing how this turns out. I wanna see if I enjoy myself enough to want to continue blogging after this class. I am also interested in learning more about the Caribbean due to having familial ties I want to learn more about the culture and history around the area.
